Amy Schuessler + Duncan Snyder
Amy Schuessler and Duncan Snyder are collaborative artists specializing in photographic media. Both artists are alumni of the Columbus College of Art & Design beginning their collaboration fall of 2016 in the large-scale project Glasshouse: Photo Flora Form at the Franklin Park Conservatory. Amy is a Ph.D.stduent at The Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts, Portland, Maine while Duncan is a professor and chair of Photography at CCAD. Together, Amy and Duncan use a variety of media and ritual to contextualize common experiences and interactions into new and collaborative visual authenticity.

Full Biographies
Amy Schuessler was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and currently resides in Columbus, Ohio. She is a graduate of Columbus College of Art & Design with a B.A. in Photography and an Art History Minor. She received her MFA at Image/Text MFA at Ithaca College in New York and is currently a Ph.D. student at The Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts, Portland, Maine. Her work focuses on the intersection of writing and photography and she is currently working on several photo book projects.
Duncan J. Snyder, professor of Photography and Graduate Studies, and chair of photography at the Columbus College of Art & Design, teaches photography, studio photography, photo projects, and landscape photography. Snyder has received individual artist grants from the Greater Columbus Arts Council and the Ohio Arts Council and serves on the Upper Arlington Cultural Arts Commission. He has been a visiting artist at the Burren College of Art in Ireland and a resident artist through the Studio Art Centers International program in Italy. At CCAD, he facilitated a travel abroad course to Ireland. BFA in photography, CCAD, 1988; MFA in photography, Maryland Institute College of Art, 1991.
Together, Amy and Duncan have received the Jurors Choice Award for their piece titled “PH44 Sweep” in the 2017 Ohio Art League Juried Fall exhibition and have recently had work in the Verne Riffe Gallery, Ohio State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition, and DUST: Plates of the Present Photogram Archive at the Pompidou Centre in Paris, France.
Their collaborative works come from an ongoing process between the artists using a variety of media and ritual to contextualize common experiences and interactions. It acts as a jumping off point for a psychological collaboration about place, residue, history, intimacy, light and ceremony. Each artist is intertwined in the process and their shared observation gives way to a new visual authenticity.
