Katie Davis is a mixed media painter and installation artist whose work blends together a love of domestic textiles and drawing. Her color choice and visual language are in direct relationship with her materials, which are sourced from vintage interior design trends and textiles. With these tools, she weaves together work that is whimsical and smart. Although loosely narrative, with human and animal bodies showing up as imagery, the focus of her work is always about the painting itself. There is a formalism and abstraction that hold tension with the whimsy and play. Her surfaces are rich and hold layers of paint, lace, buttons, old curtains or clothing. Katie is the recipient of numerous awards and her works has been published in New American Paintings, Archer Magazine, INPA 10, among other publications.
